Why is it best to choose wood from the Vologda forests when building a house?

A house from the Vologda forest means durability, always comfortable conditions, profit and rationality. For the production of our glued beams, we purchase the highest quality boards from coniferous forests of the Vologda region.

The northern forest is not in vain considered an excellent material for construction. The beautiful yellow color of the tree, excellent performance, a significant amount of resin in the pores of the wood, the ideal distance between the annual rings and the unusual pattern of the saw cut of the tree are the competitive advantages of the northern Vologda forest.

The wood of the Vologda forests is of high quality, durable and environmentally friendly. Trees in northern latitudes, including the Vologda Oblast, grow very slowly, only during a short summer. In this regard, the annual rings of trees are very thin, their width rarely exceeds 1 mm, and the fibers fit as tightly as possible to each other – this explains the high strength of wood. Therefore, building materials from Vologda wood are almost not subject to deformation, are not afraid of dampness and temperature changes.

Also, the Vologda forest is considered the most dense and heaviest. Looseness affects the durability of the log house, since moisture evaporates from the wood during shrinkage. This process leads to the appearance of cracks and the lower the density of the wood, the deeper the cracks will be and there will be more of them. Therefore, it is very important to choose a denser and more durable wood!

The durability and strength of Vologda wood has been proven by tens and hundreds of years of operation of the most ancient buildings from it: village log cabins, churches, parishes, many old estates were built using this material. Historical fact: the first ships of the Russian fleet, built by Peter the Great, were created from Vologda wood. After all, this tree is warm, reliable and durable.

Today, in housing construction, we actively use materials from coniferous species (spruce, pine) growing in the forests of the Vologda region. The harvesting of raw materials is carried out in the winter, when the wood has a minimum moisture content. The attractiveness of Vologda wood is not only in its excellent quality, but also in its reasonable price.

The advantages of spruce houses

Spruce in the Vologda region is considered the most common tree species. This material is able to retain its natural color for decades, and this is one of its main advantages. Spruce, like pine, is soft, resistant to deformation and does not dry out. In terms of flexibility, it even surpasses pine and practically does not turn blue.

  • Good moisture resistance of walls

Spruce absorbs moisture, like any natural material. However, due to structural uniformity, resinousness and almost the same density from the surface to the core, moisture is absorbed slightly and mainly on the surface layer. Therefore, the walls in such houses do not get wet deeply. As a result, the spruce house is less susceptible to a set of humidity from the environment.

  • The walls do not "flow" during the operation of the house

There is practically no problem of leakage to the outside due to the high resin content in the houses of spruce. Spruce has low resin content. Resins accumulate in small knots – throughout the tree structure in small volumes. Spruce materials give a pleasant coniferous smell and at the same time do not emit resins in a critical volume.

  • Spruce does not turn blue, maintaining a uniform white color

The inner and outer surface of spruce materials has a uniform whitish color with a woody pattern and does not darken or yellow over time. Therefore, it is spruce that is best suited for elegant exterior facades. And in general, a house made of glued spruce lumber retains its noble natural color.

  • Lightness at home

The density of spruce building materials is noticeably lower than that of many other species, which, however, does not impair the technical properties. And this means that the weight of the whole house becomes much less – you can reduce the cost of arranging the foundation.

  • High energy efficiency

Wood fibers in spruce elements are located less densely, due to which the timber retains heat better.

  • Elasticity

Due to the high flexibility and hardness of the material, large and deep cracks do not form. The structure of the solid wood is preserved – there is no need to additionally seal the cracks. Also, dry knots do not fall out of glued spruce timber over time – you can not be afraid of depressions in the walls.

  • Pleasant smell and environmental friendliness

In a spruce house, you can always feel the pure smell of natural needles. Low resin content ensures the purity of the coniferous aroma and practically does not mix with the smell of resin. The benefits of coniferous enzymes have been known for a long time. The presence of natural phytoncides, which are a natural antiseptic, contributes to the presence of always clean air in your home. The smell of pine needles has a calming effect on the nervous system, increases immunity to colds and viral diseases, and has a beneficial effect on the respiratory tract and lungs of a person.

Advantages of pine houses

Pine in the Vologda region is the second most common after spruce. Its main advantages are low cracking after drying and low shrinkage. In addition, it is resistant to decay, good viscosity, moderate warping, strength and durability. The wood has a beautiful and clearly traced structure. Plus, it's inexpensive.

  • Aesthetic appearance

The texture of pine wood is beautiful and noble. The color of the wood is sufficiently resistant to external influences. Sometimes, over time, the pine timber darkens, while acquiring a noble reddish tint.

  • Durability, moisture resistance

A house made of glued pine lumber has a high natural protection against decay. The high resin content in wood prevents bacteria from multiplying that can cause the destruction of the material.

  • Excellent thermal insulation qualities

A pine house is always warm in winter and cool in summer.

  • High breathability

Due to the low density of pine wood, an optimal level of humidity in the room is ensured – a comfortable microclimate is naturally maintained. Inside the wood, there is a constant air exchange, creating the effect of "the house breathes".

  • Pleasant pine scent

The material contains substances that have a bactericidal and healing effect.

  • Soundproofing

According to the ability to absorb various noises, pine is considered the best among conifers.

  • Softness and strength

Pine wood is soft (density 470-540 kg/m3) and durable, easy to work with a relatively small number of knots.

  • Lightness

The house is light in weight, does not place excessive demands on the foundation.
